Do you want to help accelerate the green transition with geothermal energy?

We are looking for a new colleague who is passionate about research and development projects with shallow geothermal energy at the Research Centre for the Built Environment, Climate and Water Technology at VIA University College. The position is limited to 2 years of employment with possibility for extension and tenure for the exceptional candidate.

We have an open, informal, and flexible work environment with an extensive network of external partners in the energy sector, both nationally and internationally.  We are engaged in research and development at all stages from idea to market, and as such we often work very close to markets for new green technologies.

We have just moved to our new 27,000 square meter campus in the center of Horsens, right by the railway station. Here, we offer a beautiful setting for our 2,900 students with modern laboratory and teaching facilities.

Areas of work

Depending on your interests and experiences, you can help shape the work contents of your position. In headlines, your work will include:

  • Participation in applied research and development projects with external partners on practice-related issues
  • Dissemination and publication of research results also in peer reviewed journals
  • Networking and conference participation with scientific contributions
  • Design and application of new projects
  • Teaching at the engineering programmes in Horsens
  • Project supervision of Danish and international students

 

Your qualifications and competences

The ideal candidate has a PhD in natural sciences preferably in geology, geophysics, physics, or engineering.  Your qualifications will be assessed by an internal assessment committee.  You possess extensive academic writing skills in English as a minimum and enjoy communicating your research to a wide audience. You are good at collaborating and eager to contribute to a good work environment. In addition, you must be able to independently plan, manage and evaluate your activities and show initiative when required. Relevant research and teaching experience is an advantage, but new graduates may also be considered. It is expected that you can contribute significantly to one or more of the following subject areas:

  •  Shallow geothermal energy
  • District heating and cooling, predominantly 5th generation district heating and cooling
  • Numerical and mathematical modeling
  • Python and MATLAB, or similar programming languages as a minimum
  • Heat pumps, primarily ground source heat pumps
  • Business models and economic analysis
  • GIS (Geographical Information Systems)

In addition, you may be interested in contributing to other subject areas of the research group, such as climate adaptation technologies.

Salary and terms of employment
Salaries and conditions of employment, including pension arrangements, will be determined in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and the relevant negotiating organisation.

The place of employment is VIA University College, Horsens Campus. However, duties and days on duty may be expected at other locations, when relevant.
